DGCA has given clearance for proposed international airport in Pune’s Purandar

Murlidhar Mohol, newly appointed as the minister of state for civil aviation and cooperation, has announced significant progress in the proposed airport project at Purandar. Both the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have given their approvals, marking a pivotal moment as all technical hurdles have been cleared. Murlidhar Mohol disclosed that the Ministry of Defence’s approval was granted in May 2024, with news of the DGCA’s endorsement received just this morning.

“With these approvals, nearly all technical challenges pertaining to the proposed airport have been successfully addressed, amounting to approximately 99 percent,” Mohol commented. He highlighted that the imminent next step involves land acquisition, a matter he plans to deliberate further with stakeholders including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), DGCA, and Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC).
