New Pune international airport to come up at Purandar in Pune district says Devendra Fadnavis
During the inauguration of a new terminal building at the Lohegaon airport on March 10, 2024, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the new international airport in Pune will be constructed in Purandar, the original location designated for the project. Fadnavis stated, “The site chosen in Purandar had received all necessary clearances from the Defence Ministry. However, the state government later attempted to relocate the site by 20 km, which proved unfeasible. Consequently, the new airport will be developed at the original site in Purandar.”
Furthermore, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated on March 11, 2024, that the anticipated notification concerning land acquisition for the Purandar airport would be issued post the Lok Sabha polls.
The Maharashtra state government is actively engaged in establishing a network of airports by developing airport runways. Plans are underway for a new airport in Purandar, Pune district, with land acquisition initiatives set to commence shortly. The establishment of an airport and cargo center in Purandar is expected to offer opportunities for industries to optimize their supply chains and generate employment opportunities. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stressed the significance of this airport project in light of Pune’s rapid expansion.
