Of these three projects, the Pune ring road project will be allotted about Rs 11,000 crore for land acquisition from 83 villages in Pune district. The project work will commence in April 2023.

According to the state’s urban development minister, the proposed Ring Road would help in the reduction of pollution by about 25% and boost socio-economic development in the region. He also said that the project would improve road connectivity in Pune. He highlighted that the vehicles travelling to areas like Saswad, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Konkan and Mumbai pass through the city, thus, causing traffic congestion and air and noise pollution. The Ring Road would significantly reduce the travel time and distance. It would involve the acquisition of around 1554.64 hectares of land, he said.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will start the development work on the 32-km Pune ring road section from Chakan to Nagar Road after the monsoon, according to the PMRDA officials. The work will be carried out in phases.

That’s not all, the Pune Ring Road will feature various benefits. It will be available at a six-lane stretch and have two service lanes. Along with that, the Pune Ring Road will also feature:

  • 14 subway roads
  • 13 funnels.

The circular, 173-km route of the road, is not only expected to improve the poor commuting conditions across the city but also open investment avenues in 29 real estate markets that lie along the approved alignment of the Ring Road. Pune Ring Road Current Status

As per the latest government confirmation, the commencement of Pune Ring Road construction is scheduled for December 2023, with an anticipated completion by date December 2026. The entire project is expected to be ready within a three-year timeframe.

The final stages of land acquisition are projected to conclude by Mid 2024. Once the land is prepared, the government estimates a 3-4 month period to initiate the road construction process. The current estimated cost of the project stands at approximately Rs 158.87 billion.

At present, 90% of the measurement process has been finalized, and the land acquisition proposition has been set into motion. The land acquisition project is reaching its final stages. Notably, improvements are underway on the eastern side of the proposed ring road. The construction procedure faced delays due to the impact of COVID-19; however, efforts are being streamlined to expedite the process.
