PMC has identified 33 road links that were previously missing and has initiated work on certain sections
The municipal authorities have identified 33 road links that are currently missing in the city and have initiated work on some of these sections. Vikas Dhakne, the Additional Municipal Commissioner of Pune, chaired a meeting to assess the progress of these missing links. Dhakne emphasized that these links are crucial for enabling commuters to access main roads from inner areas, and the administration is securing the necessary funds for their development.
A Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official mentioned that the administration has acquired land at seven locations in Sinhagad Road, Hadapsar, Vimannagar, and Navle bridge areas to connect these missing road links. Work has commenced on road links in Sinhagad Road and Indian Hume Pipe areas, providing alternative routes for commuters. Residents like Dinesh Joshi from Sinhagad Road, seeking relief from traffic congestion, are optimistic about these developments.
However, civic activist Qaneez Sukhrani from Vimannagar urged the PMC to prioritize the development of missing links based on merit and avoid causing inconvenience to local residents. According to PMC estimates, these missing links range from stretches of a few meters to 1.5 km, with the lack of available land being a significant obstacle.
Aniruddha Pawaskar, the head of PMC’s road department, mentioned ongoing discussions with landowners and their willingness to cooperate. Former corporator Haridas Charvad noted that the work on many road links in fringe areas had been pending for an extended period. Dhananjay Benkar from the Aam Aadmi Party emphasized the importance of addressing missing Development Plan (DP) road links to alleviate traffic issues in specific areas. Rajendra Chutar, the president of Baner Pashan Link Road (BPLR) Welfare Trust, expressed frustration over the exclusion of their road from the initial phase of link road constructions. The 36-meter road connecting Baner and Pashan, proposed in the 1992 DP, has faced delays due to land acquisition issues. Pawaskar acknowledged that BPLR road is among the 33 missing links and assured a review of its status and subsequent action by the civic administration.
